The beauty, allure, rarity and historical mystique of rubies are well known. The earliest record of the rubies goes back to more than 2,500 years ago in Sri Lanka. The ancient Hindus were so enchanted by the color of rubies that they called them Rajnapura or “King Of Gems."
Rubies command one of the highest per carat prices among other gemstones including diamonds. A 15.97 Carat faceted Mogok ruby was sold at Sotheby’s in New York for $3,630,000 or $227,301 per Carat in October 1988.

Few other gems have as much myth, lore and romance surrounding them as ruby. The queen of gems, deep red ruby is the rarest and most valuable of gemstones. Historically, many believe that mystical powers lie within this intensely colored red gemstone. When inserted beneath the skin, the ancient Burmese believed that the stone generates a mystical force, which protects the wearer from accidents and attacks. Rubies have been so loved by royalty, they have always included them in their insignias and famous jewelry.
