Therapeutic Properties of Jade

Jade has always been sacred in China, where it is called yu. The Chinese believe that jade increases energy and prolongs life. They believe that jade symbolized the five highest virtues: benignity, lucidity, resonance, immutability and purity.

Jade is universally thought to bring good fortune and longevity. Chinese reveres the Jade. There are many superstitions and legends surrounding Jade in China. Jade butterflies symbolize love to a bride on her wedding day, a phoenix is often given to young girls coming of age, whereas a jade padlock is given to children to protect them from all danger--basically locking them into life.

Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest consider Jade an important gemstone of wisdom, long life and luck.

Gamblers, especially those betting on horses, believe that jade brings them good luck.

Jade comes in various colors. The emerald-green variety of Jadeite is known as Imperial Jade. Other colors of Jade are: pink, lilac, lavender, brown, lime green, black and white. Most valued variety of Jade is the pink or lilac Jadeite.

Traditional Metaphysical Properties of Jade:

Fidelity, dreams, realization of potential, peace, accord, resourcefulness, accomplishment.

Healing Powers of Jade:

Jade is an important gemstone in subduing an overactive 2nd Chakra. Natural Healers use Jade to relieve grief and trauma, loneliness and improve sleep. Jade is also believed to heal kidney problems.

Many people believe that jade is important to ensure a long, lucky life. Jade is sometimes said to help eye problems. A jade amulet is said to protect a woman in childbirth. Place jade on a sore shoulder or back for healing.

Jade reminds us that there is more to life than what we see as our physical bodies. Something powerful and beautiful is moving inside us. Jade gives balance to what we see (body) and what we don't see (spirit), so each revitalizes the other.

Jade is a powerful gem for relaxation. It reduces stress. People who wear jade reported that they feel calmer and relaxed when they wear jade. It produces a serene or tranquil mood.

Jade helps us when we're depressed, especially when we feel stuck in a situation. One gemologist advices her clients to "wear it when you can't stand the person you're living with another minute longer. Or your job is driving you crazy. Wear it whenever what you'd really like to do is run away, but you think it's wiser not to."

Jade offers physical and emotional well-being, especially during unpleasant or difficult situations by helping us feel more grounded. Though we may not be able to change the situation, jade can help us accept and deal with it sanely.
